Manjushree - Statue
Manjushree is thought to be a disciple of Buddha. A bodhisattva is a person who withholds enlightenment to help others along the way.
He represents wisdom, awareness and a code for “right” living. Manjushree carries a flaming sword in his right hand that slices through ignorance or bad judgment.
Legend says he founded Nepal by going to the lake that had a flaming lotus. He offered worship to help ease the fire. The lake was so big he could not get close enough; so, he used his sword to cut through one of the walls of the hills. The water drained from the lake; the valley dried and is now called Kathmandu Valley.
