Thangka (to:nko:) are painting or scrolls that can be rolled up and were easily transported for ceremonial rituals or teaching at monasteries.
The thangka is a teaching tool as they are filled with symbolism and allusion but must be made in accordance to guidelines expressed in the Buddhist scriptures. It takes religious training and understanding for an artist to properly create an accurate thangka.
